I know I’m echoing the sentiment of so many when I say that after these last 3 months I’ve never been more drained and exhausted in my life. I needed to step away and recharge. I found a very secluded, quiet, safe place to sneak away with two of my loves. It reminded me yet again how time away from our normal routine gives us the calmness and perspective we need to reflect, renew and come out better versions of ourselves. Over this past week I have reconnected with so many old friends and enjoyed powerful conversations with new ones. I snuggled my baby girls every night and filled our days with no agenda, spontaneous fun. I am restored. I am grateful. I am blessed.

I’m a proud small business owner. My parents started our travel agency in 1972 before I was born with nothing but a loan from the bank. They weathered so many storms in the travel industry - airline commission cuts, online travel competition, multiple recessions, 9/11 - and every time they were able to evolve with the times and survive. The proudest day of my work career was buying them out to become a second generation owner and grow our little family business... by 2019, we closed our largest sales year in company history. Here we are just 4 months later and like all small businesses today, we are struggling. I have learned that the struggle ends when gratitude begins. So what am I grateful for? I’m grateful to work with the most incredible, dedicated, passionate, thoughtful, hard working, collaborative group of women. I’m grateful for our loyal clients who keep our spirits propped up with promises of future adventures - both large and small - that they will book with us when this is over. I’m grateful to our government for recognizing how devastating this virus has been to businesses and providing the PPP funding to ease the pain. I’m grateful to my husband and children who have supported and comforted me through tearful days and nights and given me the strength and courage to make difficult business decisions. I’m grateful to the Instagram community for allowing people to continue to travel and dream by sharing photos and memories. Lastly, I’m grateful to Mom and Dad for their unconditional love and support in all I do in work and in life. I know Royal Travel will survive and thrive again as it has done now for nearly 50 years. How are you spending isolation? 😷 I’ve been sorting through old travel photos. I love this one from the black volcanic beaches of Iceland in 2016. 🇮🇸 I remember thinking at that moment how every day and every adventure was a gift. 🌟 I could never imagine then that there would be a time when I could not travel. Anywhere.😪 It’s been hard for my mind and soul to rectify, but I’m keeping busy reliving old memories and planning future adventures. ✈️ I hope everyone is listening to the experts and staying safe at home. Two years ago #teamroyaltravel was together in sunny St. Lucia. Little did we know then what we’d be up against today. I am so in awe of these incredible professionals (and others not pictured) who have been rock stars in the face of an evolving and invisible enemy. They have put their clients needs, wants and safety above all else and have worked tirelessly around the clock these past few weeks to research options, speak to travel partners, re-route or evacuate clients, fight for refund credits, understand insurance policies, learn new airline waiver agreements, only for everything to change the next day and then they have to start all over again. Don’t you love the stories we create when we travel? 📖✈️🌏 One of my favorite travel memories is when I flew into Cambodia from Thailand and @amansara_angkor picked me up in the former King’s refurbished 1960s Mercedes limousine. 👑 I felt like a character in a Quentin Tarantino movie 😳😉with drivers who were clad in all white and did not speak. a word. The devastation Hurricane Irma caused here in 2017 was catastrophic.
